Primary Sports Funding 2016 – 2017

The government is providing funding of £159 million per annum for academic years 20-13/14, 2014/15 ,2015/16  and 2016/17 to provide new, substantial primary schools sports funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The funding is being given to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all of the primary age children in school.
The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

 

For 2016/17 Robin Hood Infants School will receive £8,890 and this will be received in two payments in October 2016 and April 2017.

At Robin Hood Infants we used assessments of children’s achievement in PE and a staff questionnaire to determine how best to use the funding to improve the quality of sport and PE and to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all our children.

 

 

Our aims are:

  • Hiring specialist teachers/coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE and sport.
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Increasing participation in school games
  • Encouraging a healthy lifestyle
  • Buying additional resources for PE/sport.

Teachers receive specialist training in gymnastics and the use of large apparatus.  Children receive high quality gymnastics sessions.

Teachers receive dance INSET training to develop skills when teaching dance followed by specialist peer teaching for classes.

Children will benefit from a creative approach to PE. Possibility of using dice PE games at playtimes to increase physical activity.

To explore line dancing as a medium for intense physcial activity.

  Y1- Gym- 89% of children attained expected or above with 32% attaining above expected.

  Y1- Dance- 86% of children attained expected or above with 34% attaining above expected.

  Y1- Games- 90% of children attained expected or above with 25% attaining above expected.

 

  Y2- Gym- 89% of children of children attained expected or above with 22% attaining  above expected.

  Y2- Dance- 87% of children attained expected or above with 27% attaining above expected.

  Y2- Games- 86% of children attained expected or above with 22% attaining above expected.
